Health Education England Advanced Clinical Practice Framework – the launch of this work will now take place on Thursday 16th November as part of large event (this coincides with Advanced Practice week – see below). The Framework will be available from https://hee.nhs.uk/our-work/developing-our-workforce/advanced-clinical-practice The details of the launch event are yet to be confirmed but I know many people are waiting for this work to be published. The Framework will be supported by other resources in a Toolkit approach in due course. Ruth Pearce from University of Nottingham is on the Steering Group for this work and I am on the Working Group and we have participated in all the meetings to date and given feedback on the framework document.
Higher Apprenticeship Advanced Clinical Practitioner – I am part of the Trailblazer group so have been very involved in the work to date. A key aspect has been remembering the strict parameters regarding what can be categorised as an apprentice or not. This has guided the revision of the draft standard following consultation with the main focus being how an Advanced Clinical Practitioner is a new role rather than continuing professional development of an existing health or social care practitioner. We have drafted potential End Point Assessment requirements and these are being finalised and costed. We hope to submit the proposals to the Institute of Apprenticeship by September and then respond to any issues that they raise. A key issue will be the nationally agreed price for the course so we are putting in costings that reflect the higher expenditure incurred for advanced practice masters programmes, however the final decision on what level it should be is taken by the Institute. We realise that many HEI’s will have experience of running apprenticeship courses but not at this level so there is a lot of learning and uncertainty. I will update as more information is available and am advocating for an event for dissemination of information enable planning ahead for Sept 2018 implementation.
Save the date! AAPE UK annual conference Friday 2nd March 2018 – Glasgow “Transforming the culture of healthcare through Advanced Practice” – we hope that many of you will be able to join us next year for our next event. Remember that membership entitles you to two free places per institution. More details will follow but we will include updates on UK activity and hear from some advanced practice innovators. We really want as many posters as possible this year too.
Finally AAPE UK are promoting the first UK National Advanced Practice Week from 12th – 18th November 2017. The aim is to raise awareness in all forums using local events, conferences and social media. It ties in with a similar event that occurs regularly in the USA. We will circulate more information and a poster but start planning. Our University Marketing and Communications team were really interested and want to do a feature on our course in that week so why not consider the same for yours? A conference is planned by University of Salford on Tues 24th November. Use #AdvPracWeek17 to start promoting this to your students, colleagues and local organisations. We hope it will become an annual event.
