My background is in Emergency Care where I worked for 19 years. I completed the RCNI NP programme in 1997 and set up the NP service within my Emergency Department. I have been involved in NP education since 2005 in emergency care, primary and secondary care and non-medical prescribing. I was a member of the steering group that developed the Advanced Nurse Practitioner Framework for Northern Ireland in 2014, and also the competencies that were developed from this. I am a steering group member developing the new ANP programme derived from this that commences in September 2017. As a committee member of AAPE I believe passionately in the value of sharing knowledge and good practice in the provision of education to provide evidence based, holistic, person-centred care. I am currently undertaking my PhD exploring person-centredness in emergency care. I maintain my clinical skills when possible by working as a nurse practitioner mainly in a minor injury unit which I believe is important when delivering clinically based programmes.
